English Language Arts

Ryan’s English Language Arts (ELA) department seeks to prepare our students to become independent learners proficient in writing, close reading, and critical thinking, equipping them for the demands of college/career level communication. Throughout our curriculum, students are introduced to a variety of readings across a multitude of literary genres.

Social Studies

It is the Social Studies department’s mission to bridge the themes of the past and the present while creating global and digital citizens. Students learn how to read, think, and write like historians, and corroborate sources in order to effectively debate, discuss, and write about critical issues in history.

Science

The middle school science program allows students to investigate both the concepts and process skills of science. Students use mathematical analysis, scientific inquiry, and engineering design, as appropriate, to pose questions, seek answers, and develop solutions in real life settings.

Math

We work hard to help all our students succeed in mathematics and to meet the Common Core Learning Standards. We are proud of our students past success as indicated by their performance on State Tests and strive to maintain the strong academic achievement of our students here at Ryan.

Physical Education

The Ryan Physical Education Department provides a comprehensive Curriculum mandated by the New York City Department of Education to meet the needs and behaviors of our children as they mature.Lesson plans are based on developmental, structured and cooperative learning strategies.
